Tenikwa Wildlife Awareness Centre in Plettenberg Bay is home to some of Africa’s rarest and majestic wild cats. On our guided tours guests can get up close to cheetah, leopard, serval and caracal to name a few. Blue cranes, marabou storks and meerkats can also be seen.

Grab the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to join the cheetahs on a walk through the soaring Tsitsikamma forest. We are committed to protecting these incredible animals and educating people about them. Tenikwa was a wonderful experience. We had a day long private tour with Ash - our very informative and friendly local guide. We began with a tour of the hospital and its patients (mostly penguins, seals, birds and small mammals), followed by visits to the individual enclosures to meet all the cats in person (serval, caracal, African wild cat, leopard, lion and cheetah), as well as birds and other creatures. Whilst they have a no touch policy, we were still able to enter the enclosures (all except the Leopard's and the Lion's) and get very close to the animals and take some great photos. The highlights for us were the Cheetah walk at the end of the day (shared with another 4 visitors) - a really memorable experience. She purred loudly all the way! The other highlights were watching the Leopard being fed at very close quarters, and hearing the Lion roar. Having visited a couple of other animal sanctuaries in the area, it was clear to us that Tenikwa was a superior operation with a well deserved reputation for care and rehabilitation . The cost to spend the whole day there was quite high, and at times it did seem that they were struggling to fill the time, but for such a good cause, we felt it was worth it and we came away with fabulous photos and memories of our visit.

The experience was awesome. Love the way the Center take cares of animals instead of exploiting for tourism. The walk with Zimbali was an experience of a lifetime. Keep up the great work!
