This marine safari lasts between one-and-a-half and two hours and departs from Kleinbaai harbour near Gansbaai. After a short introductory talk and safety briefing, you’ll be issued with a waterproof jacket before boarding the Whale Whisperer and heading out to sea.
The marine safari is led by experienced marine biologists who will take you to Dyer Island, an Important Bird Area (IBA), and home to many species, including African penguins. On your marine safari look out for Cape fur seals at Geyser Rock and Bryde’s whales and bottlenose or humpback dolphins. You may also have the opportunity to stop at our shark cage diving vessel and see The Great White Shark.

Dyer Island Cruises is one of the best. Excellent staff, clean and comfortable boat, and an unmatched beautiful ocean. We saw a great white shark near the cage diving boat, African penguins and a huge colony of Cape fur seals. The crew are also a highlight to this trip, very friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate about the ecosystem. They also explained that the company is actively involved in conservation, and clients had the option to buy artificial African penguin nests! It is great to see a company give back to the ecosystem and makes you wonder why more companies do not. Really incredible, and already planning our next visit.
Brilliant trip loved by all the family aged 4 to 70! Highly recommend. Staff were lovely, very helpful and really knowledgable.
It was a great experience! Thank you. The staff was friendly and professional. I was keen to donate a penguin "house" but our transport had to leave. I cannot find anything online.
Really enjoyed this boat tour. The guide, Jacks, was lovely - extremely knowledgeable, very patient and answered all my questions comprehensively. We saw a whale, seals and penguins. Soup and bread at the end was a nice touch. Great experience!
