More about Whale Watching

After being collected in Cape Town, you’ll arrive in Gansbaai for your whale watching trip. First, you’ll listen to a short introductory talk and safety briefing before heading out to sea for a spot of whale watching. On the way, you’ll pass Dyer Island, home to many birds, including African penguins.

As you cruise the waters looking for whales, you’ll also see Geyser Rock where 60 000 Cape fur seals live and “Shark Alley”, where great white sharks hunt. Your marine biologist and whale watching guide knows exactly where to find the whales and you’ll soon be spotting them in the water.

Opinions On Whale Watching

What the locals say about Whale Watching.

Ashley Rasquinha

The arrangements right from the start at Capetown to Dyers Island & back to Capetown were perfect. We were unlucky in terms of sighting any whales & also the visit to the seal colonies due to bad weather. However, being avid bird watchers, we enjoyed the Pelagic birds & the cruise as a whole. The great white shark sighting at the shark diving point was a bonus. What appealed to us the most in the trip was the very hospitable nature of the entire staff & in particular the high degree of knowledge about all the local wildlife & birds. Attached are a couple of pictures of the Shy & yellow billed Albatross & the Skua. I look forward to your response or a link if my pictures are put up.

We had a fantastic experience with Dyer Island Cruises. The shuttle service was on time and very pleasant. The crew took good care of us and were very knowledgeable. Among seeing several whales, including a mother and calf, we got to see a mating pod of whales and a few breaches that were spectacular. Although I missed getting the best one on film, their videographer managed to capture it and we purchased a very nice film of our trip for a more than reasonable price. They did such a good job that we also sponsored a penguin house. Not only do I highly recommend it, we would love to do it again.

We were very impressed with the whole trip it was a long drive but we knew that. The drive was very good and kept us informed on timings. The trip itself was very good again the staff were very helpful and knowledgeable
